Every Windows PC comes equipped with the option to run a Scan Disk or Disk Check. Scan Disk and Disk Check are the same program but with different names. A Scan Disk or Disk Check can help you run a scan of all your system’s hard drives and assess if there is any viruses on them or if they need to be defragmented.
While this might sound like a great feature to have on your computer the Scan Disk or Disk Check will not run on its own you have to manually start the scan. Here’s a look at how you can start the Scan Disk or Disk Check on a Windows PC.
Step 1: Click on the Start box at the bottom of the screen. The Start is located in the bottom left and on Windows 7 is just a picture of the windows icon.
Step 2: Select Computer from the option. You will be given a list of hard drives to scan.
Step 3: Choose the hard drive that you want to run the Scan Disk or Disk Check on. To select the hard drive right click on it. A menu will appear and you will want to choose properties.
Step 4: From the tabs on top of the menu select Tools. In the tools section choose error checking. When you select this a pop-up will appear asking if this is okay, choose yes.
Step 5: Select the automatically fix file system errors from the menu and the Disk Check will run on its own.
Disk Checks should be run every month or so to ensure your computer runs properly.
